Opening a medical clinic in British Columbia

In British Columbia, the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC licenses you to practise, and Doctors of BC is your association. We help you build the clinic.

Physicians practising in British Columbia are regulated by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia. The College site is where you confirm registration. Requirements change, so check the current ones before you set an opening date.

Doctors of BC is the professional association. It advocates for physicians and provides practice support. Licensing stays with the CPSBC.

The provincial plan

Insured services are billed through the Medical Services Plan. The Government of British Columbia publishes the plan description. Enrolment as a practitioner is a separate task from holding a CPSBC licence. Confirm it before you promise an opening date that depends on billing.

What we do in a B.C. startup

The build is still the opening sequence: model, money, site, construction, systems, people, and launch. B.C. changes the regulator and the payer. It does not change the need for a room list before a lease, or for an EMR chosen against the workflow.

We work with physician-led clinics across Canada from Ottawa. Bring a B.C. project to a consultation and we will build the plan around the CPSBC and the Medical Services Plan.

Questions physicians ask

Who licenses physicians in British Columbia?

The College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia (CPSBC). Confirm current registration requirements on the College site. Doctors of BC does not issue the licence.

What is MSP in this context?

The Medical Services Plan is the public plan. Enrolling to bill is separate from your CPSBC registration. Confirm the current process with the province, and we will put that date on the launch plan.
