Physicians who practise in Ontario need a certificate of registration from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. The College sets the requirements, and those requirements change, so confirm the current ones on the College site.
The Ontario Medical Association is the professional association for Ontario physicians. The Ontario College of Family Physicians supports family physicians. Neither one replaces the CPSO.
Billing
Publicly insured services are billed to OHIP. Ontario publishes the schedule of benefits and fees. Enrolment to bill is its own step, after the CPSO certificate. We put that timing on the launch plan.
What we do in an Ontario startup
The clinic itself is still a model, a budget, a lease, a build, an EMR, a team, and an opening. Provincial rules change the paperwork and the payer. The practice still needs to be designed.
Marco Pelchat built both Central Park Medical Clinic locations in Ottawa, a pediatric and pediatric endocrinology clinic. The addresses are on clinics we have built. The same opening sequence applies to a family practice or another specialty.
The firm is in Ottawa, Ontario, and works with physician-led clinics across Canada. If you are opening in Alberta or British Columbia, start on those pages for the regulator, then use the same opening guide.
Questions physicians ask
Who licenses physicians in Ontario?
The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO). Registration information is on the College site. The Ontario Medical Association and the Ontario College of Family Physicians do not issue the licence.
Do you file OHIP enrolment for me?
We put billing setup on the startup plan and keep the dates visible. Enrolment and claims rules come from the Ministry of Health. Ontario publishes the OHIP schedule of benefits.
